Borders Book Festival – 13th – 16th June 2019 – This is a hugely popular annual festival held in Harmony Gardens in Melrose, which attracts a wide range of renowned authors, celebrities and politicians. Melrose Rugby Sevens – Saturday 13th April 2019 – this is the original and biggest Sevens tournament in Scotland and held in the town where the game of 7’s was invented. Scottish Borders Walking Festival – Held at the beginning of September every year. In 2019 being held in Selkirk from 7th to 14th September. See http://www.borderswalking.com for more information.
Common Ridings & The Melrose Festival – Huge schedule of events in different Border towns throughout the summer from May to August. These festivals are unique to The Borders and offer a great opportunity to watch large gatherings of horses and riders recreating and commemorating historical events from the area’s past.
The Melrose events are held in June each year. In the main ride-out on the Monday of Festival week there usually over 300 horses and riders in traditional dress taking part. See http://returntotheridings.co.uk/ for more information on all Common Riding events.
Edinburgh Festival & Fringe – Held in August every year this world-famous festival is now very accessible from Melrose via the Borders Railway link at Tweedbank. Journey time to the centre of Edinburgh is just 55 minutes and passes through some beautiful Borders landscape. Harleyburn is the closest B&B to Tweedbank station which is less than a mile away. Enjoy the best of both worlds by staying in the beautiful and tranquil Scottish Borders countryside and jumping on a train to experience the hectic atmosphere and amazing events at the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe.
